INTERNATIONAL POLICE ASSOCIATION

Laura Fund

International Police Association (IPA) Section Ireland has a fund for families facing hardship. A grant from this fund can be applied directly to the Secretary General or through the Regional Secretary. The President will convene a meeting of the IPA Laura Fund Committee who will recommend to the National Executive Committee a donation in accordance with the IPA Laura Fund criteria. The committee consists of President, First Vice President, and National Treasurer. All communications are dealt with in strictest confidence.

History

Laura, daughter of IPA member, John Lonergan and Maura, contracted an incurable illness called Neurofibromatosis in 1995. Friends and colleagues of John and Maura organised a fundraiser to purchase a voice activated computer to assist with Laura’s studies. The monies remaining from the fundraiser were handed over to Past President, Mr. Denis Dunne, by John and Maura, to set up a fund to be called the ‘IPA Laura Fund’ in Laura’s memory, to support other families.

Donations

Monies collected at IPA events are the source of income. We urge all IPA event organisers to do a collection for the IPA Laura Fund.
